About this Project

St. Louis County, in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), is leading a project to construct left-turn and right-turn lanes on MNTH 73 at Town Line Rd (CSAH 16/CSAH 60) located in the City of Hibbing in 2027. This project is funded through the

The County Road Safety Plan ranks this intersection 33 out of 1,488 intersections which places this intersection in the top three (3) percent by risk. This project will include realignment of Town Line Rd and installation of roadway lighting to provide illumination of the intersection. and roadway lighting are proven safety countermeasures to reduce the risk of serious crashes.

The purpose of realigning Town Line Rd is to eliminate the existing intersection skew. Town Line Rd intersects MNTH 73 at approximately 35 degrees. This skewed approach makes it more difficult for drivers on the side road to select an appropriate gap in traffic on MNTH 73. Intersection skew requires drivers to turn their neck further and conflicting vehicles can be hidden by a vehicle’s cab features such as the window pillars. Skewed intersections are especially difficult for older drivers where it is more difficult to turn their neck. Skewed intersections also create a longer crossing distance for pedestrians and bicyclists compared to perpendicular intersections.

Project Location

On MNTH 73 at the intersection of CSAH 16/60 (Town Line Rd)

Traffic Impacts

There will be a detour, it is unknown at this time.
