About this Project

St. Louis County, in cooperation with the City of Mountain Iron, is leading a project to construct sidewalk along Park Ridge Dr (CSAH 102) and Rock Ridge Dr located in the City of Mountain Iron in 2025. The sidewalk along Park Ridge Dr will begin at Rock Ridge Dr and end at Nichols Ave (CSAH 109) for a total distance of 0.32 mile. The sidewalk along Rock Ridge Dr will begin at US 169 and end at Park Ridge Dr for a total distance of 0.39 mile. The grand total length of new sidewalk is 0.71 mile. This new sidewalk will connect to a new pedestrian crossing on US 169, Walmart, East Range Academy of Technology and Science (ERATS) and Iron Range Tykes Learning Center. St. Louis County submitted a joint funding application to the Minnesota in February 2024 and both St. Louis County and the City of Mountain Iron were awarded funding for this project in May 2024.

The Minnesota Legislature established the Active Transportation Program in 2017 and it is defined in Minnesota Statutes 174.38. Eligible recipients includes cities, townships, counties, non-profits and federally recognized Indian tribes. The purpose of the program is to connect communities and key destinations, boost public health by creating safer environments for people to walk, bike or roll to their destinations and mitigate safety hazards related to interacting with vehicular traffic.

St. Louis County hosted a public information meeting for this project in January 2024 at the Mountain Iron Community Center. St. Louis County will lead the project which includes design, bidding and construction administration/inspection.

On Park Ridge Dr between Rock Ridge Dr and Nichols Ave (CSAH 109) and on Rock Ridge Dr between US 169 and Park Ridge Dr


Traffic Impacts

There will be no detour and all work will be completed under traffic.
