Overview:
St. Louis County, in partnership with the City of Aurora, is reconstructing and resurfacing CSAH 100 (3rd Ave North/Main St) from TH 135 to the railroad crossing. The City will also be reconstructing street and utilities on City streets along the CSAH 100 corridor. The reconstruction project is based on the layout developed from the CSAH 100 Corridor Study. This reconstruction project is necessary because the infrastructure has reached its end of useful life and is in need of improvement.
Key CSAH 100 project components include:
- Construct a mini-roundabout at the intersection of Main St and 3rd Ave North.
- Construct a raised median on 3rd Ave North between Erie St and Hill St. An opening in the median will be provided for local businesses.
- Install enhanced pedestrian crossings that utilize RRFBs (pedestrian activated flashers) on 3rd Ave North at Hill St and 1st St.
- Narrowing the overall street width on Main Street to accommodate larger sidewalks while maintaining 12’ parking lanes.
- Construct a 6 ft sidewalk along the south side of 3rd Ave North between Erie St and Hill St.
Key City of Aurora project improvements include
- Re-align 3rd St between Mesabi East School and 3rd Avenue to improve access to the campus
- Construct a non-motorized trail along 1st Avenue, extending the Mesabi Trail from Pine Grove Park to the downtown business district
- Reconstruct roadway and replace water and sewer utilities
- Install new 12-inch water transmission line between water plant and 1st Avenue/Main Street intersection to increase capacity of system and support future extension of water system.
- Improve entrance and parking lot at Pine Grove Park
- Reconstruct Community Center Parking Lot and upgrade lighting
